Essential Functions:
  • Perform assigned and scheduled laboratory tests on samples of raw materials, intermediate products, and final products in order to comply with company product standards.
  • Perform assigned and scheduled material (including but not limited to, raw material, packaging material) inspection in order to comply with company standards.
  • Keep accurate records of test result as required.
  • Mix and control concentrations of standard laboratory reagents.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment in good operating condition. Report all necessary maintenance and repair requirements in a timely manner.
  • Maintain chemical reagents inventory.
  • Maintain the cleanness and sanitation of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with waste treatment, yeast cultivation and yeast culture transfer.
  • Keep all formulation, ingredients, test methods, and other trade related information in confidence.
Required Superpowers:
  • Knowledge and abilities in Food Manufacturing Quality Control laboratory practices acquired through education and/or experience as described in the EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS section.
  • Accurate record keeping abilities as demonstrated by previous experience.
  • Interpersonal skills adequate to work in a multi-culture work environment.
  • Able to stand or sit as needed for required periods of time while observing tests.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry and/or Food Science related field OR
  • Minimum of two (2) years college education resulting in an associate degree, coursed taken in
Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biochemistry including laboratory procedure, laboratory safety, qualitative
and quantitative analysis, College level Algebra, and Food Safety System related field like HACCP,
FSMA, GFSI. Bacterial culturing experience is highly desirable. Or a minimum of Five (5) years of experience in Food Manufacturing Quality Control Laboratory environment and Food Safety Scheme environment (including Yamasa experience)

Essential Functions:
  • Administrate entire quality assurance and control operations.
  • Analyze and evaluate manufacturing conditions reports such as Raw Material and Packaging Material
Quality Control report, Production (packaging) Schedule report, to assess the accurate condition of
Final production.
  • Provide effective and prompt instruction to necessary departments for solving problems, processing problems, and production mechanical problems.
  • Provide through support for maintaining and acquiring regulatory documentation, permit, and certification by government or other authority.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments and outside (third party) certifying agencies such as ODA/FDA, Organic, Non-GMO Project, GFCO, Kosher & SQF.
  • Identify and document best practices, ideas, and information relevant to quality and food safety system.
  • Maintain quality and food safety system and evaluates for compliance through regular/internal audits, routine inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Provides training and mentoring to assure all food associates are fully capable of achieving Quality &
Food Safety expectations.
  • Oversees programs to reduce or eliminate customer complaints.
  • Follows up on quality issues through finished product and customer complaints.
  • Provide and maintain required documents from customer.
  • Perform assigned and scheduled routine laboratory tests on samples of final products and line inspection of the production in order to comply with company product standards.

SUMMARY:
This position is in the Product Development team.  It includes responsibilities for maintenance and renovation of our current customer portfolio as well as innovation.  The position requires partnering with cross-functional teams in Procurement, Operations, Sales, Business Development, Quality, and Thermal Processing in the development and commercialization of products.  The individual will work with supervision to design and execute projects.  The individual must possess a strong knowledge of technical principles and be able to apply it towards designing new products or reformulating existing products.
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop products based on customer provided guidelines, including but not limited to USDA labeling, organic, nutritional restrictions, allergen free, and cost restraints. 
  • Document and maintain organized, detailed records of laboratory formulation variables and data analysis. 
  • Execute laboratory and confirmation (scale-up) experiments that examine the operational and formulation variables that impact key product attributes such as taste, appearance, texture, etc. 
  • Collaborate with industrial teams to conduct line trials.  Ensure knowledge transfer and adherence of quality from the lab to industrial scale-up. Document and report on test runs and results.
  • Provide product information and technical support to customers.
  • Create Nutrition Facts Panels (NFP) and ingredient statements with guidance from Regulatory Specialist.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to execute continuous improvements and solve technical challenges for internal and external customers.
  • Provide guidance to lab personnel on technical formulation requirements, specification development, data collection, and procedures.
  • Provides input and approves in specifications as required for new/revised SKUs.
  • Work with vendors to source new ingredients as well as collect and organize supplier specifications. 
  • Participate in cuttings of your own products, fellow food scientist’s products, production quality cuttings, and competitive products.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of operating systems, product standards, raw materials, and suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of an R&D organization, including product development flow from conception to product launch.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prefer B. S. in Food Science, or related field, with minimum 3 years of product development, process development, or similar experience in food related industry.
  • Prefer experience in factory environment, scaling from benchtop development to commercialization.
  • Experience in savory flavor applications (i.e. sauce, soups, and side dishes) a plus.
  • Strong computer skills:  Microsoft Office applications, experience with Genesis and SAP a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, oral, and written.
  • Occasional travel required (10%)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed during the day in a laboratory, production, or office environment.  Work must be done on site. 
The noise level in the work area ranges from quiet to loud.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, reach with hands/arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. 
Full time, generally five-day, 40-hour work week with the rare occasion of travel or production support on weekends or evenings to support project trials and production based on business needs. 
Candidates are required to pass a drug test prior to beginning employment.

As our Sr. Scientist you will assist in creating brand potential, evolve and improve nutritional quality, flavor, and texture of products.  All included with keeping the company on track to stay at the forefront of new developments and product innovations.  
As a successful candidate you must be able to demonstrate interpretation and application of scientific findings to frozen food processing, the ability to translate finding to innovative products, and the translation of these objectives in clear business project goals. 
Our company is developing a new processing facility, in Marysville, WA.  The facility is planned to be ready for occupancy the 4th quarter of 2022, with production beginning in January 2023.  You will be responsible for developing and managing the department staff, be responsible the department success, and a key contributor to plant management.
Senior Food Scientist Responsibilities: 
  • Researching new cost-reducing manufacturing processes that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicating to all concerned regarding food quality and safety issues.
  • Utilizing formulation software to create and update formulations.
  • Working on new products from conception to launch.
  • Updating products specification sheets for sales preparation and updating labels.

  • Adhering to all safety regulations.
Position Requirements:
