POSITION SUMMARY

 Regulatory Compliance Specialist
  
As a member of a dedicated team of food technology professionals, the successful candidate will create nutrition and ingredient labels using nutrition software, review artwork from a technical and regulatory perspective and proof product labels to verify accuracy and regulatory compliance.  Assist with maintaining specifications and other technical documents.
 This could be a remote position requiring frequent collaboration via MS Teams, e-mail and/or phone with the Regulatory Compliance team located in Medford, OR; Westerville, OH and Chicago, IL
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Food Science, or related field is preferred. 
  • 1-3 years of relative experience desired or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Working knowledge of FDA labeling requirements.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, Outlook). 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle many assignments simultaneously.

POWDERPURE is currently seeking an Applications Technologist.  This position is one of the key members in product creations and applications team for POWDERPURE.   As a team, we are proud to conceptualize and realize commercially viable products to food and supplement customers by working closely with cross functional teams within POWDERPURE and other IFF subsidiary companies.  

 As an Applications Technologist, you will be responsible for creating and optimizing proprietary powder, custom blending, and applications that drives commercial success in the marketplace.   You will be a technical guru whom internal teams and external customers seek information from.  
 Responsibilities include…
​
  • Scope out projects with customers and sale reps to provide solid solutions tailored to customers under limited supervision and guidance. 
  • Independently drive development projects from benchtop to commercialization, using knowledge of flavors, active and functional ingredients, hydrocolloid, formulation, and processing techniques to develop commercialized viable powder ingredients. Be able to maintain and use analytical tools and equipment. 
  • Manage multiple projects with guidance from manager when needed.   
  • Champion our commercialization process, partnering with the supply chain, quality assurance, quality control and processing expert team to coordinate cross-functional efforts and continuously improve established procedures.
  • Conduct quality and sensory shelf life study on POWDERPURE ingredients. 
  • Work closely with our processing specialist to execute plant scale trials and associated product testing. This might require occasionally work outside of normal business hours.
  • Proactively identify optimization opportunities for formulation and production to improve quality, increase efficiency, and reduce cost. 
  • Troubleshoot product design issues during production and during end applications. 
  • Set product and create new product specifications and nutritional statement with accuracy and proficiency. 
  • Match competitor products on an organoleptic, specification, and composition levels.
  • Create meaningful and market relevant concepts and end applications using POWDERPURE ingredients for trade shows and customers.  
  • Utilize market information and work with marketing/category team to identify areas where we, as a company can proactively engage our customers.
  • Present project progress and findings clearly and concisely in front of customers and internal stakeholders. 
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Engineering or related fields.
  • 0  to 3 years of experience in the product development, quality control and assurance, processing in food and supplement companies. 
  • Knowledge of product development life cycle.
  • Knowledge in sensory shelf life testing from panel training and experimental design.
  • Knowledge of processing techniques in different categories of products, such as bakery, dry beverage, bar, capsule, tablet, and sweet goods, is a plus. 
  • Knowledge of powder ingredient is a plus.  
  • Strong in verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Toby's is looking for a reliable Manager of Quality Assurance & Food Safety to ensure that all external and internal requirements are met before our product reaches our customers. You will be responsible for inspecting procedures and outputs and identifying mistakes or non-conformity issues. An excellent Quality Assurance Manager has eyes like a hawk and solid experience in quality control. The ideal candidate is a reliable and competent professional whose approval will be necessary for the continuation of a business life cycle. The goal is to assure the high quality of our operations and services aiming to the long-term success of our business.
Responsibilities
  • Devise and maintain procedures for inspecting and reporting quality issues. These procedures ensure HACCP, FISMA, and 3rd party certification plans are met.
  • Direct, manage, and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for quality assurance, food safety and compliance.
  • Manage internal and external auditing of quality and safety systems.
  • Oversee the resolution of non-conforming areas.
  • Work with production personnel in a managerial role to assist them with quality issues within their departments.
  • Provide quality coaching to production employees.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve product quality problems by researching issues, analyzing data, and developing solutions.
  • Oversee analytical work done at each step of the manufacturing process to ensure quality control standards are met and maintained.
  • Conduct lab testing of food production batches.
  • Review and approve the purchase of lab supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure the preventative maintenance and repairs of lab equipment.
  • Supervise employees engaged in QA activities.
  • Maintain and manage the FDA SSOP programs and review daily documentation generated to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee plant sanitation and pest control programs.
  • Assure the reliability and consistency of production by checking processes and final output
  • Facilitate proactive solutions by collecting and analyzing quality data
  • Review current standards and policies
  • Keep records of quality reports, statistical reviews and relevant documentation
  • Ensure all legal standards are met
  • Communicate with external quality assurance officers during on-site inspections. These include GMP, HACCP, Orthodox Union, and Oregon Tilth among others.
Skills
  • Proven experience as a quality assurance manager or relevant role
  • Thorough knowledge of methodologies of quality assurance and standards
  • Excellent numerical skills and understanding of data analysis/statistical methods
  • Outstanding communication skills
