Overview
General Summary
This position will apply a robust knowledge of labeling regulations to all phases of the product lifecycle, ensuring that packaging is accurate, compliant and innovative. This position will review a high volume of product labels and will directly oversee the nutritional and product specification data used to develop product packaging and to disseminate to customers.
Responsibilities
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide food labeling expertise and collaborate with Quality, R&D, Marketing, Operations, and Sales to leverage regulations and give Reser’s Fine Foods a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
2. Routinely collaborate with Private Label customers to jointly develop and approve product labels.
3. Monitor and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations, food labeling regulatory activity, and relevant technical product and processing information. Assess business opportunities and impact to brands.
4. Guide the product development labeling process for new and reformulated products to ensure regulatory and business requirements are met for all nutrition goals/claims, ingredient guidelines, and product name/Standard of Identity.
5. Develop and maintain accurate food labeling information for finished products (e.g. allergens, nutrition, ingredient statements, product name, claims) to assure compliance with regulations (FDA, USDA, CFIA), third-party certification standards and company policies.
6. Review product labels to verify correctness and regulatory compliance.
7. Generate product Nutrition and Ingredient statements from company database.
8. Proactively identify potential regulatory issues, provide resolution and offer suggestions when working on new product labels or product reformulations to improve speed to market.
9. Process and submit USDA label sketch approvals and temporary approvals. Issue generic label approvals to production facilities.
10. Respond to inquiries relating to private label items, ingredients, label claims, allergens or other technical information.
11. Assist with maintaining formulas, internal specifications or other technical documents as needed.
12. Communicate cross functionally regarding current and emerging food labeling issues and opportunities.
13. Collects, enters and maintains product and technical data for customer web sites and performs routine updates to ensure accuracy is maintained.
14. Other departmental duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Job Specifications

1. Bachelor of Science in the field of Food Science, Nutrition or other strongly related field is preferred.
2. Current knowledge of FDA & USDA labeling regulations preferred.
3. Working knowledge of large national retailers vendor portals/product information systems is preferred
4. Detail oriented, organized and self-motivated. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.
5. Ability to confidently represent the company and department to plant personnel, corporate managers, customers and regulatory agencies. Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and team skills.
6. Ability to work independently without close supervision and possess good judgment, decisiveness and interpersonal skills. Comfortable with ambiguity and problem solving.
7. Intermediate or better PC skills are required; advanced skills in Excel and Word are desired. Experience with electronic label review software systems is highly preferred.

 
Working Conditions

1. Office environment.
2. Occasional travel (10%) to travel throughout the US for work or professional training. Able to work extended hours on occasion.
3. Occasionally lift packages up to 20 pounds.
