Quality Assurance Technician -- Oregon Fruit Products, West Salem, OR

SUMMARY The Quality Assurance Technician works to ensure all raw materials and processed products meet or exceed indicated OFP, regulatory and customer standards. The Technician demonstrates our commitment to food safety, quality and excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES other duties as assigned…
Performs daily pre-operational inspections.
Provides technical support to production and QC.
Able to prioritize and complete on-going QA tasks.
Works collaboratively and safely in a production and lab environment.
Able to work 7 days/week during fresh fruit harvest season, typically mid-June to mid-September.

JOB DUTIES
Monitor for problems in production process and QC.
Assist in development of new and revised specifications and procedures.
Conduct final product testing, including brix, pH, viscosity, titratable acidity, color and flavor.
QA/QC data entry and filing.
Prepares certificates of analysis.
Prepares sales order shipping documentation, both domestic and export.
Ships sales samples and maintains sales sample stock.
Manage lab sample process for shipping.
Performs monthly/weekly water and environmental testing.
Able to sample and evaluate incoming raw materials.
Able to operate label printer for finished product and misc. shipping needs.
Schedules and sets up shelf life evaluations.
Maintain product retention libraries.
Review and scan vendor documentation.
Inspect and evaluate co-packed product samples.
Inventory and ordering lab supplies.
Support or substitute for QC techs during production, as needed.
Performs fresh fruit grading.
Maintain cleanliness of lab.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology or other relevant field; or three to five years related experience and/or training in quality assurance role required; experience in food manufacturing, food service or agricultural product experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

COMPUTER SKILLS Has basic computer job skills including logging on to systems, ability to communicate by email, ability to compose documents, enter database information, create presentations, download forms, and preserve/backup important data. Intermediate to advanced skill in Microsoft Word and Excel a plus.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS This position does not require any certificates, licenses or registrations.

The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
