Quality Control & Regulatory Compliance Coordinator
Department: Quality Control
Reports to: CEO
Location: Hummingbird Wholesale, Headquarters – Downtown Eugene, OR
Some Travel:  Region Pacific Northwest-Los Angeles
Status: Exempt -Full Time, 40 hours
Salary: Competitive Wage, great benefits

Position Summary       
We are looking for a candidate with competency in compliance, regulations, and controls, with excellent detail orientation and project skills.
  • Responsible for leadership of all quality control, assurance, & regulatory compliance efforts within the Company.
  • Creates, administers, maintains and improves systems to promote full compliance with all applicable food safety, workplace safety, and other regulatory standards.
  • Performs an advisory role to the leadership team and department managers for promotion and implementation of best practices.
  • Leads efforts to create an exceptional food safety environment while fulfilling the company's strategic goals, mission, and vision.
 
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred.
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):
  • Qualification as “Preventive Controls Qualified Individual,” as defined by the Food Safety and Modernization Act required.
  • Current HAACP certification required.
  • SQF, BRC, ISO-22000 or other food safety training and certifications preferred.
 
Skill Requirements:
  • Detail oriented, well organized
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work well individually and with others
  • High computer literacy
  • Open minded and eager to learn and develop new systems and methods
  • Typing, Ten-key, Operation of general office equipment
  • Strong math, logic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to:
    • Quickly prioritize work based on risk assessment and urgency
    • Maintain objectivity at all times
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with peers and employees, able to relate for people at all levels of the organization
    • Read, analyze, and interpret scientific and regulatory information published in peer-reviewed journals, the Code of Federal Regulations, and other publications produced by regulatory bodies.
    • Distill and communicate complex regulatory and scientific information in an easy to understand way.
    • Consider multiple perspectives when investigating complex issues, including financial, scientific, operational, and regulatory concerns.
    • Identify opportunities, risks, and challenges, present information and make recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
    • Prepare and present training and training information in an effective and participatory manner.
    • Self-confident, service oriented leader
    • Exercises practical judgment in a complex environment
    • Methodical and analytical decision maker
 
Experience:
  • 2+ years in the food and safety position in the food industry required.
  • Familiarity with GAP/GMP and HACCP best practices required.
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of food and worker safety, state and federal safety laws.
  • Leadership experience is required; 2+ years personnel management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates commitment to evidence based decision making
  • Experience with the following software programs/platforms is required: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Programs.  
  • Experience with physical inventory systems and software
 
Physical, Mental and Visual Requirements:
  • While Hummingbird Wholesale strives to create opportunities for desk workers to have regular tasks which get them up and moving around, the Quality Control and Regulatory Compliance Coordinator spends the majority of their time in a stationary position at a desk. The coworker must be able to operate a computer for many hours a day.
  • In support of some essential job functions, the position requires the Quality Control and Regulatory Compliance Coordinator to work in commercial food production and warehouse environments. While in these environments, the coworker must be able to safely comply with all company and regulatory rules and guidelines.
  • The position requires frequent and repeated exposure to major food allergens, including but not limited to, wheat, tree nuts, dairy, and soybeans.
  • Occasional day or overnight trips may be required to attend training or industry events.
  • May occasionally receive calls or other communications from the company outside working hours in response to product recalls or other urgent quality control or regulatory compliance matters.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time. Ability to position self for purposes of filing and shelving product and materials on low and high shelves. Ability to lift overhead and carry up to sixty pounds.
