JOB POSTING:  Oregon Ice Cream -- Maintenance Manager

THE ROLE:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for all maintenance activities in a food manufacturing and distribution facility; directing regular maintenance and project work, leading the maintenance team, developing strategies to improve overall reliability of production processes, and supporting capital projects.   The person in this role will serve as a functional expert, providing information and serving as a resource to the VP of Operations, while focusing on food safety, people safety and production efficiencies.
  • Effectively utilize expertise and collaboration to assess operations, propose changes and follow through with agreed upon actions; areas may include plant layout, PLC changes, ammonia safety, compliance related activities, etc.  
  • Establishes, regularly monitors and makes adjustments to preventative maintenance and parts inventory programs to ensure effective plant operations
  • Effectively lead, coach and motivate team to achieve individual and company goals; including scheduling, performance management, establishing team needs and hiring
  • Provides technical oversight and coordination of project work through project coordination meetings and other means; monitors progress against project schedules and budgets; recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals
  • Develop and maintain annual maintenance budget; including capital expense needs
  • Review and recommend outside vendors and contractors; work with VP Operations to negotiate contracts, budgets and bids
  • Communicates to operations and cross functionally to ensure priorities are meeting the needs of the plant and other project areas
  • Contributes to written documentation of SOP and other critical processes
  • Actively participates in all safety programs as needed for the department and to maintain a safe, food safety, efficient and respectful environment; including but not limited to lock out/tag out, confined space entry, PSM/PHA, MSDS for material used in maintenance activities, and safety meetings.  
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and best practices associated with the industry
  • Collaboratively perform other duties as needed and directed to support company goals
Work Environment:
Oregon Ice Cream contains office, manufacturing and outdoor workspaces where this position is required to access and work. This position requires frequent use of a computer and related hardware and frequent walking and standing in and around the facility.   A person must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist and climb stairs; hear and talk; use hands to finger, handle or feel tools or controls; use hands and arms to reach. Frequently lifting/moving up to 30lbs is also required; occasional lifting/transferring of objects may be required with assistance up to 75 lbs. This position also requires a person to handle environments of varied temperatures and with various food allergens present; and be comfortable at various heights.    
 
In addition, this position requires a person to travel occasionally to various worksites including OIC locations, vendor sites and various other venues.  
 
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:   
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or technical training in related field; Minimum of 5 years maintenance managerial experience in a food manufacturing environment; ice cream, other dairy or experience highly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preventative maintenance and parts inventory management systems/programs
  • Basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Knowledge and experience with ammonia cooling systems preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite with proficiency in Excel; Redzone or other manufacturing or maintenance programs a plus
  • Ability to coordinate and manage projects; develop project plans; manage project teams; and communicate changes and progress of projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate team members, and influence others
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate (verbal/writing) and present ideas effectively at all levels and with all customers, internally and externally
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems  
  • Ability to perform required tasks safely, in a fast paced work environment; ensuring food safety, quality and efficiency standards are achieved
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends and holidays
  • A passion for quality food and ice cream is a plus!
