Position Summary:
The Manager - Food Safety and Quality provides hands-on leadership / direction for Quality Control, Environmental Control and Food Safety functions.  The Manager interfaces, directs, advises and supports existing Quality and Food Safety staff to ensure food safety standards are met.  The role will have contact with customers & manages governmental / third-party audits. The Manager will develop & implement food safety policies & procedures and insure all food safety regulations are met for our Pacific Northwest blueberry processing operation.  
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for all quality and food safety functions
  • Champion quality and food safety initiatives to monitor / document product, facility and worker compliance is achieved
  • Direct management and training of Food Safety Management System based on FSSC 22000 and execute on programs and projects affecting food quality and food safety
  • Oversee all plant HACCP, pre-requisite quality programs, and all quality/food safety related programs to meet regulatory and/or customer requirements
  • Lead, coach, manage and develop subordinates
  • Implement policies & monitor compliance of FSMA rules and regulations on domestic and imported product.
  • Facilitate food safety training programs and insure standard operating procedures are followed
  • Issue, review & maintain product specifications, certificates of analysis and all other QA documents
  • Develop & maintain documentation such as SOP’s, policies & procedures related to food safety
  • Schedule, facilitate and manage third party audits including regulatory inspections
  • Monitor and verify activities to ensure that all products coming in / going out of the facility meet food safety standards & quality standards
  • Ensure that existing food safety procedures and documentation are current with changing requirements
  • Assist sales on complaints & technical questions as well as training / educating potential suppliers to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure sanitation of facility complies with food safety and safety guidelines
  • Provide input on development and management of the annual operating and/or capital budgets for FS&Q
  • Generate QA activity reports describing trends & expenditures as well as communicate findings / action plans to necessary/appropriate parties
  • Make recommendations for new business development opportunities, facility investments, revenue generation and strategic partnerships
  • Continuously maintain knowledge & understanding of current applicable government regulations / action plans
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • B.S. Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related discipline required.
  • Experience with Food Safety in a fresh or frozen processing environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, GMP’s, and GAP’s.
  • Experience with FSSC22000, and/or FDA/USDA audits desirable
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Strong writing, research and verbal skills
  • Must be flexible with work hours and days 
  • Proven manager; capable of coaching & developing a team & talent.
  • Attention to detail, strong analytical & critical thinking skills, problem solving
  • Strong computer application skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point, Alchemy)
  • Team player who demonstrates initiative and integrity
  • Able to travel to various suppliers periodically
