The Food Safety and Quality Manager must leverage their strong interpersonal skills to bring together cross functional teams to achieve overall food safety and quality objectives. Mange cross functionally, up, downward and across the company to leverage skills and project synergies and prioritize short, mid and long term goals for the company.
 
 
Compliance
  • Ensuring compliance to all regulatory, customer, and corporate programs;
  • Leading and participating in regulatory, customer and internal audits;
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality control/assurance programs and concepts;
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of food regulations (FDA, USDA, etc.,) and the ability to interpret and share this information with others.
  • Working knowledge/understanding of FSMA changes and application dates.
  • Working knowledge of GFSI approved standards including SQF
  • Manage trace management, withdrawal and recall activities for all assigned sites.
  • Leads Food Safety Teams and responsible for maintaining current Food Safety Plans
  • Plans, promotes, and organizes multi-plant training activities related to product quality and food safety.
  • Provides necessary training materials to plant and corporate personnel on Quality and Food Safety topics with required.
  • Supports facility QA teams to ensure technical resources for facilitating issue resolution are available on the production floor.
  • Works with the local site Management to develop Quality Assurance and Process Improvement objectives which ensure targets are measured and met.
  • Takes ownership, for the initial and successive SQF certification of site facilities including creation and maintenance of the ongoing Quality Management Systems.
  • Assure that effective SOPs, work instructions, work processes, tools and systems are developed, documented, and maintained to meet quality and food safety objectives.
  • Maintain and improve the following programs; documentation, training, calibration, nonconforming materials, Supplier approval, internal audits, CAPA and Management Review
  • Develop and Report KBI to Leadership at prescribed cadence
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.
 
 
Department Administration
  • Developing annual Food Safety budgets and managing cost control throughout the year;
  • Ability to work with and lead cross functional teams to build consensus
  • Must possess excellent verbal written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently in planning and implementing multiple projects and assignments.
 
 
Process Improvement Leadership
  • Champions the use of Quality Improvement Tools, Lean Manufacturing and Root Cause Analysis; Lean Manufacturing, Root Cause Analysis and Quality Improvement Tools including SPC, Six Sigma DMAIC
  • Managing the collection, trending, and reporting of data to identify root cause and areas of opportunity such as key product attributes, shelf life, and productivity while maintaining quality;
  • Develops and analyzes scientific data and product specifications to determine present standards and propose improvements to finished product processes that meets and complies with all regulatory requirements.  Utilizes data for continuous quality improvement where appropriate.
  • Develops, administers and monitors execution of plant wide quality programs (i.e. Net Weight Control, work flow improvements, FMEA, SPC, etc.)
  • Supports and assists plant team on troubleshooting, problem resolution, and CAPA programs as required.
  • Establishes and maintains the “Quality Dashboard” tracking pertinent product and process performance measurements against established targets and delivers periodic program presentations to key stakeholders within local Site Management and Brand Teams.
  • Effectively integrates Quality and Lean techniques and tools across all departments, creating and maintaining efficient, effective, and dependable set of Quality processes which focuses on the elimination of failures, rework, and costs in all areas while improving customer satisfaction and financial performance.
  • Ensures that departments are using structed problem solving methods to resolve issues, examples of the tools include: 5 Why Analysis, Fishbone diagrams, 6 Sigma techniques, SPC techniques, 8D, A3 and COPQ techniques and others.
  • Provide leadership/mentoring/training to all levels of the organization on the use of Quality improvement tools.
  • Develop a culture that strongly values excellence and diversity in quality.  Rewards and recognizes achievements in these areas.
  • Ability to analyze root cause analysis and implements change to continuously improve the quality of products and processes.

  • PCQI Training
  • Formal training and demonstrated use of Quality practices including statistical analysis, auditing, and process control.
  • Working understanding of process flow and value steam mapping

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, science or related field, Masters preferred.  Other degrees will be considered based on the candidates demonstrated knowledge and job experience related to food safety compliance programs.
  • PCQI certified
  • Relevant experience with FSMA, GFSI standards and deployment of globally accepted quality systems
  • Experience practitioner of Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, and COPQ measurement systems, a Green or Black Belt certification is desired.
  • 7 to 15 years of related experience within a regulated food facility and/or distribution environment with at least two years of direct managerial experience related to food safety compliance.
