Job Description:
Situated in the southernmost tip of the Dundee Hills, Stoller Family Estate is a 398 acre property with over 220 acres of contiguous vineyards planted primarily to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The qualified candidate will have the opportunity to work with some of Oregon’s best winemaking talent to produce a broad scope of high quality wines.

This position requires a superb working knowledge of analytical equipment operation and upkeep ensure that our winemakers are receiving the highest level of accuracy and consistency from the lab. The ideal candidate will work closely with winemaking and cellar staff as well as bottling staff to oversee quality control for all aspects of wine production. During harvest, there is potential to train and lead a small team of interns to complete the lab responsibilities. Thorough work and attention to detail is essential.

Primary responsibilities:
-Perform and manage lab analysis with consistency and accuracy, including titrations and enzymatic analysis via auto-analyzer
-Follow standard operating procedures and safety procedures as well as write and maintain SOP for staff guidance
-Organize sampling, collection and analysis of wine lots, both on periodic schedules and as requested by winemaking staff.
-Execute and oversee all measurables for quality control, both in the winery and during bottling
-Assess and evaluate validity of analysis and results
-Calibrate and clean lab equipment and prepare standard solutions
-Make and oversee additions to tanks and barrels
-Communicate with winemakers regarding their analysis and other laboratory needs
-Complete all related record-keeping and database entry as needed
-Maintain inventory of all chemicals and reagents necessary for laboratory operation
-Participate in the hiring and management of laboratory staff, both seasonal and permanent

Position Summary: The Quality Technician will be responsible for the verification of quality procedures and product specifications. This role monitors sanitation, GMPs, and FSMA compliance, as well as assists in performing and coordinating product analysis and testing.  The Quality team works closely with the production team and laboratory to ensure the production of quality products in a timely fashion.
 
 
Job Responsibilities: 
  • Provide guidance, counsel, and recommendations to employees within Operations/Production regarding GMPs, product specifications, and food safety.
  • Monitor Operations/Production adherence to GMPs, product specification, SOPs, SSOPs, and food safety
  • Address all GMP violations with both production management and team members
  • Obtain and maintain accurate records to determine the consistency of product quality, compliance to regulatory agency requirements, and documentation of Food Safety Plan
  • Assist Operations/Production with the creation of Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Work Instructions
  • Perform analysis on product produced within the plant as needed
  • Collect products and samples for testing as needed
  • Maintain accurate lab records and verify accuracy of testing samples, as needed
  • Furnish appropriate accurate verbal and written reports to the Quality department and plant management regarding product/process quality and consistency, process capabilities, and Food Safety Plan
  • Interact daily with production supervisors, operations supervisors, and employees
  • Perform inspection of the production floor to ensure that food safety and quality checks are done accurately.
  • Review and verify QA/QC records, including receiving/shipping records, monitoring records, cleaning documents, and all Process Control Documents. 
  • Function as internal auditor to monitor the plant for compliance with FSMA and 3rd-party regulations and review for compliance with GMPs
  • Manage, maintain, and improve Hold and Release Program and Production Corrective Action System.  Help investigate root causes and suggest corrective actions. Follow up on corrective actions to ensure implementation.
  • Conduct pre-shipment review of the finished product
  • Investigate customer complaints
  • Act as back-up to Technical Services Manager for crucial food safety functions
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or coursework is a plus (Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology or related discipline)
  • Intermediate MS Word or Google Platform experience
  • Previous food manufacturing experience is a plus

 Position Summary:
As a member of the Sensory Team, the Assistant Sensory Scientist actively participates in sensory and flavor projects and tasks.  This position requires the use of sensory methods and analytical chemistry to drive new product development, product improvements, and provide internal and external technical support.  The Assistant Sensory Scientist collaborates on projects with Research & Development, Sales/Marketing, Brewing/R&D (Haas Innovations Brewing), Hop Breeding/Agronomy, QA/QC, Procurement, and Manufacturing to execute plans and achieve desired goals.

  1.   Day-to-day Sensory activities and technical support:
  • Works with the Brewing Solutions team on projects related to sensory panel, HBC experimental variety evaluation, Compusense®, hop field sensory, new product support, customer education programs, and ad hoc technical support requests.
  • Generates data from sensory evaluations of hops, hop products, and the use of these products in beer and other beverages.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating the Hop and Product Libraries.
  • Supports activities in establishing, maintaining, and updating the Hops and Product Libraries sensory/chemistry database.
  • Answers customer sensory questions.
  • Assists in roots cause analysis and responses to customer complaints.
  • Assists in the development and publication of product specification sheets.


  2.Selection:
Works closely with Supply Chain to assist in executing customer varietal/lot quality evaluation, identifying and providing appropriate varietals/lots to specific customers, participating in customer selection sessions, track customer lot preferences, and communicate lot preferences to Supply Chain team.

 Conditions of Employment:
  1. Position requires a high degree of latitude and time flexibility.  When no special circumstances exist, working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Hours worked more than 40 in a workweek are compensated at the overtime rate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists QA Manager in different activities and conducting inspections to look for areas of improvement and enforce proper GMP adherence. 
 
Assists QA Manager with all external audits. 

Provides leadership and supervision of QA and QC technicians. Tracks daily, weekly and monthly performance goals for QA and QC technicians. Provides formal and informal feedback through coaching, monitoring and evaluating job results.  

Audits the procedures of lab personnel and other plant staff to ensure quality standards are being met.  Trains employees and ensure food safety and quality parameters are met. 

JOB DUTIES: 
  • Reviews and signs daily quality paperwork as completed by technicians, operators and supervisors.  
  • Engages in pre-operational and in-process inspections during the day, communicating and providing technical expertise and support for production and QC.
  • Maintains and orders laboratory supplies, equipment inventory calibration and repairs.

The Quality Assurance Manager coordinates and leads all aspects of the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Programs. Primary duties are to assure that all company manufactured and distributed products, and manufacturing/warehousing processes meet the regulatory requirements of 21 CFR Part 117, Current Good Manufacturing Practice, Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventative Controls for Human Food, 21 CFR 120, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP); Procedures for the Safe and Sanitary Processing and Importing of Juice; Final Rule. The QA Manager should be familiar with the FDA guidelines in the management of patulin in apple juice.
The QA Manager functions as the Food Safety Team Leader in the development, and continuous improvement of FSSC 22000 Food Safety Program (a recognized Global Food Safety Initiative scheme based on ISO standards).
It is the responsibility of the QA Manager to oversee the organic processing program as required in USDA 7 CFR Part 205, Organic Program with certification through Oregon Tilth, the kosher program and certification of the Juice Products Association (JPA) approved tanker wash facility.
The QA Manager is responsible for all audit preparation and participates and facilitates in all onsite and internal audits.
The QA Manager should have formal training in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and the FSMA required Preventive Controls for Human Food.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct QA staff consisting of QA Technicians and Document Control Coordinator.
  • Monitor products and process performance with respect to customer specifications.
  • Maintain the production laboratory equipment, chemicals, reagents and supplies that are required to perform production and laboratory QA functions.
  • Provide laboratory expertise and performance necessary to analyze product raw materials for:
  • Chemical: Patulin, Brix, Malic Acid, pH, Solids, Turbidity
  • Microbiological integrity: i.e. standard plate count, coliform, generic E. coli, yeast, and mold.
  • Physical for visual defects.
  • Organoleptic: flavor, aroma, and appearance of juice and other raw materials, as necessary.
  • Provide laboratory expertise and performance necessary to analyze and control finished products within their specifications for chemical, microbiological, physical, and organoleptic requirements.
  • Maintain and controls sample inventory of products (juice) in cold room for shelf life determination, and shipment to customers as required under license or co-pack agreement or as requested.
  • Provide laboratory reports and certificates of analysis to customers as required by license agreement or as requested. Prepare and ship samples accordingly.
  • Maintain laboratory records for all production items through their shelf life and/or as required by federal or state regulation (21 CFR Part 110 Current Good Manufacturing Practices). FSSC 22000 to assure quality.
  • HACCP documentation including HTST pasteurization charts, master sanitation schedule, plant sanitation, and CIP procedures.
  • Maintain pest control program and interact with outside contractor for pest control system.
  • Special assignments upon request of Vice President, Operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field. Quality control and experience in the laboratory.
  • Experience with BRC, SQF, and/or FSSC 22000.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft office Suite.
  • Knowledge of government regulations pertaining to food processing, packaging, and labeling preferred.
  • Ability to operate and maintain High Performance Liquid Chromatography equipment and software.
  • Ability to interpret chromatograms.
  • Disciplined, process oriented; demonstrates solid analytical and issue resolution skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

SUMMARY:
Responsible for ensuring all quality, food safety parameters, regulatory and customer requirements are met.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
Collects samples and conducts routine tests required to ensure the quality of the products.
Enters, records and reports test results
Verifies client specifications are met
Responsible for pointing out significant changes in results and trends to the Quality Control and Shift Supervisors
Assists in the implementation and maintenance of process, quality, sanitation, and food safety programs within the plant
Daily review of QC data entered in the computer.
Maintains daily inventory of lab supplies and equipment
Monitors all retention samples daily
Makes sure that all samples are labeled correctly, grouped correctly, and placed in the sample room in the right order
Maintains a clean, safe work area
Maintains area of responsibility to meet GMP standards

This position is in the Product Development team. It includes responsibilities for maintenance and renovation of our current customer portfolio as well as designing new products. The position requires partnering strongly with external customers as well as internal cross-functional teams in Procurement, Operations, Sales, Business Development, Quality, and Thermal Processing in the development and commercialization of products.

The individual must possess a strong knowledge of technical principles and must be self-motivated, proactive, demonstrate initiative, and think critically.
As a Senior Food Scientist, you will be involved with a project from conception to benchtop development and finally commercialization through implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop products based on customer provided guidelines, including but not limited to USDA labeling, organic, nutritional restrictions, allergen free, and cost restraints.
  • Document and maintain organized, detailed records of laboratory formulation
  • variables and data analysis.
  • Designs laboratory and confirmation (scale-up) experiments that examine the operational and formulation variables that impact key product attributes such as taste, appearance, texture, etc.
  • Lead line trials to ensure knowledge transfer and adherence of quality from the lab to industrial scale-up, collaborating with industrial partners as needed. Plan, coordinate, document, and report on test runs and results.
  • Provide product information and technical support to customers.
  • Create Nutrition Facts Panels (NFP) and ingredient statements with limited guidance from Regulatory Specialist. Provide customer with options based on regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of project timelines.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and execute new opportunities, improvements, and solve technical challenges for internal and external customers.
  • Provide guidance to lab personnel and junior scientists on technical formulation requirements, specification development, data collection, and procedures.
  • Oversees the creation and approves specifications as required for new/revised SKUs.
  • Work with vendors to source raw materials as well as collect, organize, and help establish supplier specifications
  • Participate in cuttings of your own products, fellow food scientist’s products, production quality cuttings, and competitive products.
  • Develops and improves knowledge of operating systems, product standards, raw materials, and suppliers.
  • Advanced working knowledge of an R&D organization, including product
  • development flow and project management from conception to product launch.

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office applications, experience with Genesis and SAP a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, oral, and written.
  • Occasional travel required (10-15%)

WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed during the day in a laboratory, production, or office environment. Workmust be done on site.
The noise level in the work area ranges from quiet to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, reach with hands/arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
Full time, generally five-day, 40-hour work week with the rare occasion of travel or production support on weekends or evenings to support project trials and production based on business needs. Candidates are required to pass a drug test prior to beginning employment. Candidates should be prepared to submit 3-5 contacts for professional references.

What you will do:
We are looking for a dynamic solution finder and experienced buyer to join our growing procurement team. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of creative sourcing solutions and purchasing packaging materials and ingredients, including managing supplier relationships, conducting new supplier searches, Requests for Proposal (RFPs), supporting new product development and innovation, while developing outstanding cross functional partnerships. The Buyer will report to the Sr. Purchasing Manager and be responsible for coordinating, sourcing, ordering sample / prototype/ trial materials, negotiating pricing and terms with suppliers, and purchasing in a variety of areas including packaging, ingredients and services across multiple categories and serving on multiple internal project teams. The successful candidate demonstrates proactive communication of solutions, actions, progress, and deliverables in cross-functional forums and by working directly with suppliers, Research & Development, Project Management, Category Management, Design, Finance, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Supply Chain colleagues. This role’s requirements include critical steps in the timely and accurate commercialization of purchased goods: comprised of supplying the team and master data with purchase price, specifications, ordering parameters, approved vendor(s), order minimums and multiples, terms of payment and delivery. Preferred Experience with sourcing innovative packaging & ingredients.
 
Here’s a day in the life:
  • Buyer for a portfolio of materials including packaging, ingredients and services including identifying existing and potential suppliers for materials by determining the ideal combination of capability, capacity, total cost/price, quality, and availability
  • Serves as a subject matter expert or team representative on multiple project teams including documenting project deliverables, actions, progress, and completion in company work management application (Workfront, other) and supporting project sourcing needs
  • Requests quotations and negotiates product prices, financial terms, shipping requirements and freight costs
  • Prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices for pre-launch, prototype and active materials including reviewing for conformance to company policy, reconciling orders and invoices for accuracy (correct items, quantity, and dollar amount) and managing inventory reconciliation.
  • Creative solution finder including driving expedites on overdue and back ordered items and finding supply solutions often leveraging relationships across multiple production sites.
  • Supports new product development and process improvements through identification, selection, and activation, with stakeholder alignment, of new, or improved, supply solutions. 
  • Drive defective or unacceptable goods resolution with quality assurance users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
  • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials
  • Approves invoices for payment
  • Communicates purchased item parameters (price, terms, order minimums and multiples, unit pack sizes, etc.) an obtains stakeholder alignment
  • Evaluates vendors to determine most desirable suppliers after conducting value for money and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, cost savings, price variance, and inventories
  • Maintains vendor and supplier files including capabilities mapping and scorecards
