JOB DESCRIPTION 
JOB PURPOSE  
We have a temporary 9 month assignment open for a R&D technologist which potentially could lead to a  permanent position. This position is one of the key membersin product creations and applicationsteam for  POWDERPURE. As a team, we are proud to conceptualize and realize commercially viable products to food and  supplement customers by working closely with cross functional teams within POWDERPURE and other IFF  subsidiary companies.  
As a R&D technologist, you will be responsible for creating and optimizing proprietary powder, custom blending, and applications that drives commercial successin the marketplace. You will be a technical guru whom internal  teams and external customers seek information from.  
Reports to: Manager, Product Designs and Applications  
Direct reports: N/A 
Location: The Dalles, Oregon

WHAT YOU WILL DO?  
• Scope out projects with customers and sale repsto provide solid solutions tailored to customers under  limited supervision and guidance.  
• Independently drive development projects from benchtop to commercialization, using knowledge of  flavors, active and functional ingredients, hydrocolloid, formulation, and processing techniques to develop  commercialized viable powder ingredients. Be able to maintain and use analytical tools and equipment.  • Manage multiple projects with guidance from manager when needed.  
• Champion our commercialization process, partnering with the supply chain, quality assurance, quality  control and processing expert team to coordinate cross-functional efforts and continuously improve  established procedures. 
• Conduct quality and sensory shelf life study on POWDERPURE ingredients.  
• Work closely with our processing specialistto execute plant scale trials and associated product testing. This might require occasionally work outside of normal business hours. 
• Proactively identify optimization opportunities for formulation and production to improve quality,  increase efficiency, and reduce cost.  
• Troubleshoot product design issues during production and during end applications.  • Set product and create new product specifications and nutritional statement with accuracy and  proficiency.  
• Match competitor products on an organoleptic, specification, and composition levels.
• Create meaningful and market relevant concepts and end applications using POWDERPURE ingredients  for trade shows and customers.  
• Utilize market information and work with marketing/category team to identify areas where we, as a  company can proactively engage our customers. 
• Present project progress and findings clearly and concisely in front of customers and internal  stakeholders.  
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned. 
• Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Engineering or related fields. 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Engineering or related  fields. 
• 0 to 3 years of experience in the product development, quality control and assurance, processing in food  and supplement companies.  
• Knowledge of product development life cycle. 
• Knowledge in sensory shelf life testing from panel training and experimental design. • Knowledge of processing techniques in different categories of products, such as bakery, dry beverage,  bar, capsule, tablet, and sweet goods, is a plus.  
• Knowledge of powder ingredient is a plus.  
• Knowledge about product development life cycle.

 Position Summary:
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for the materials receiving, inventory management, work-order kitting, and distribution replenishment processes within the Warehouse department. Through the leadership and guidance of the Warehouse shift lead team, they coordinate and direct shift warehouse operations and personnel to ensure that quality work is performed in a safe, productive, and efficient manner. 
 Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for scheduling daily and weekly assignments for the shift leads and front-line warehouse team; leverages and administers policies, programs, and procedures to maximize output while minimizing labor costs
  • Responsible for training warehouse personnel on safe and efficient warehouse operations
  • Proactively monitors and measures warehouse department throughput and quality metrics; responsible for coaching, counseling, and managing employees via timely feedback and development. 
  • Establishes and executes processes to ensure accuracy of all department functions 
  • Maintains communication with the department manager and shift leads on warehouse operational priorities and resource needs

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent from an accredited institution
  • 1+ years team or project leadership experience

• Implement, review, and maintain the facility food safety management system.

Raw Material Buyer – JOB DESC
  • Manage and control raw materials, supplies/stocks, ensuring all production requirements are met within cost, quality, and service standards. 
  • Maintain positive relationships with suppliers and distributors while managing costs and inventory. 
  • Collect and organize required documentation for each supplier and distributor, keep up to date and current. 
  • Monitor tight site warehouse space availability for raw ingredients and raw materials and issues of materials to production.
  • Assess supplier compliance and service as needed for continuous improvement. 

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Management of supply of materials to site and the production facility.
  • Works closely with Suppliers, Production Coordinator and Production Manager to ensure raw materials are available to meet production schedules to meet quality standards, and customer requirements.

SUMMARY:
This position is in the Product Development team.  It includes responsibilities for maintenance and renovation of our current customer portfolio as well as innovation.  The position requires partnering with cross-functional teams in Procurement, Operations, Sales, Business Development, Quality, and Thermal Processing in the development and commercialization of products.  The individual will work with supervision to design and execute projects.  The individual must possess a strong knowledge of technical principles and be able to apply it towards designing new products or reformulating existing products.
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop products based on customer provided guidelines, including but not limited to USDA labeling, organic, nutritional restrictions, allergen free, and cost restraints. 
  • Document and maintain organized, detailed records of laboratory formulation variables and data analysis. 
  • Execute laboratory and confirmation (scale-up) experiments that examine the operational and formulation variables that impact key product attributes such as taste, appearance, texture, etc. 
  • Collaborate with industrial teams to conduct line trials.  Ensure knowledge transfer and adherence of quality from the lab to industrial scale-up. Document and report on test runs and results.
  • Provide product information and technical support to customers.
  • Create Nutrition Facts Panels (NFP) and ingredient statements with guidance from Regulatory Specialist.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to execute continuous improvements and solve technical challenges for internal and external customers.
  • Provide guidance to lab personnel on technical formulation requirements, specification development, data collection, and procedures.
  • Provides input and approves in specifications as required for new/revised SKUs.
  • Work with vendors to source new ingredients as well as collect and organize supplier specifications. 
  • Participate in cuttings of your own products, fellow food scientist’s products, production quality cuttings, and competitive products.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of operating systems, product standards, raw materials, and suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of an R&D organization, including product development flow from conception to product launch.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prefer B. S. in Food Science, or related field, with minimum 3 years of product development, process development, or similar experience in food related industry.
  • Prefer experience in factory environment, scaling from benchtop development to commercialization.
  • Experience in savory flavor applications (i.e. sauce, soups, and side dishes) a plus.
  • Strong computer skills:  Microsoft Office applications, experience with Genesis and SAP a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, oral, and written.
  • Occasional travel required (10%)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed during the day in a laboratory, production, or office environment.  Work must be done on site. 
The noise level in the work area ranges from quiet to loud.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, reach with hands/arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. 
Full time, generally five-day, 40-hour work week with the rare occasion of travel or production support on weekends or evenings to support project trials and production based on business needs. 
Candidates are required to pass a drug test prior to beginning employment.

We have an opening for a Quality Control Lab Technician based in our Portland, Oregon manufacturing facility. In this role, you will support the manufacturing plant by providing quality control on 2nd shift.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification. Job duties and knowledge listed are for the labor grade.  Knowledge of all duties is to be cross functional, but specific duties are assigned within available personnel.
  • Perform bench-top analysis of critical quality parameters in accordance with SOP’s and control plan. Record data to assure that in-process samples and finished goods are in compliance to specifications.
  • Conduct microbiological testing of in-process samples and finished goods in accordance with SOP’s and control plan and report results.
  • Hold finished product when results fall outside of acceptable range, investigate root cause and propose solutions. Assist in disposition of hold products through retest and /or providing sorting instructions to supply chain.
  • Analyze data statistically looking for trends, common and special cause variation.
  • Perform required environmental tests of Primary & Secondary Fluids as well as Air Quality.
  • Perform audits on equipment, materials, products and procedures to assure that the lab is in compliance based on CQA (Corporate Quality Assurance) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) procedures.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a clean, safe and orderly manner on a daily basis.
