The Department of Food Science & Technology invites applications for a Student Recruitment, Outreach, and Marketing Coordinator.  
This is a part-time, 0.80 FTE, 12-month position located in Corvallis, Oregon.  
The Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) is an academic and research program that embraces the role as the epicenter of where food meets science and where students receive impactful education along with experiential learning as they advance  their careers within the food and beverage community. Our faculty’s diverse research interests  enable us to successfully collaborate with Oregon’s agricultural and food and beverage  industries. FST provides value added finishes to the work conducted by our colleagues  throughout the College of Agricultural Sciences. FST is taking a leadership role in ensuring  Oregon and beyond will meet 21st century food systems’ challenges by integrating sustainability  across all parts of our Mission – Education, Research, and Outreach. FST is one of 13 academic  departments in the College of Agricultural Sciences. FST has a solid Bachelor of Science  program with ~100 undergraduate students. We have a long tradition for strong stakeholder  engagement and impactful research programs funded by over $7.5M federal and industry grant  funding supporting around 50 graduate students.  
The Student Recruitment, Outreach, and Marketing Coordinator provides academic  recruitment, outreach, marketing and program administrative support for the Department of Food  Science and Technology. This position works to proactively recruit new students for the  academic program by planning, implementing, and evaluating strategies to increase enrollment.  The coordinator is responsible for outreach and marketing for recruitment efforts and  administrative support for the department, including creation and posting of content for social  media, brochures, program flyers, newsletters, web presence, and events. 
Position Responsibilities: 
50% Manage Student Recruitment and Retention Activities 
Design, conduct, participate in outreach, recruitment, and retention activities to increase the  number and diversity of students enrolled in the FST academic program. 
Activities include: 
• Develop and implement a strategic recruitment plan, assess effectiveness of  program, report progress to leadership and external stakeholders. Evaluates and revises  procedures and practices to ensure effectiveness of program. Coordinate with college and university recruitment efforts. Coordinate participation in OSU summer youth camps  and summer employment opportunities for high school students.  
• Develop and maintain relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other  external entities with the objective of establishing and strengthening pipelines and  pathways to recruit new Food Science students. 
• Participate as an active member of the FST recruitment committee.

• Coordinate and assist with FST events that support recruitment and student activities,  such as pre-college, START session, FST orientations, FST career fair, and Taste of  Research. 
• Coordinate/manage students and other personnel assisting in the planning and  implementation of recruitment activities. 
• Maintain working knowledge of OSU admission policies, timelines, and criteria, and  financial aid and scholarship application procedures to refer prospective students. • Establish systems to manage tracking and administrative reports for department  leadership to demonstrate progress towards metrics and college goals. 
• Work may require travel to events and may include evening and weekend hours. • Be familiar with student recruitment programs already in place both at OSU and  externally and decide strategically which ones to participate in. 
45% – Department Communication, Marketing and Outreach 
• Consult and collaborate with FST department head, and administrative manager, faculty  committees, external advisory board, and other relevant stakeholders on promotional  strategies for FST programs.  
• Coordinate or assist with managing department events including developing and  maintaining event website and registration process.  
• Manage social media presence for department. This includes collecting and promoting  department news, awards, updates, etc.  
• Manage department website by designing, developing content, and maintain/updating as  needed. 
• Design, produce and distribute department communication materials in print and  electronic formats. 
• Manage and distribute information to department electronic mailing accounts. • Document department events by taking photos and maintain photo database.  
5% - Department Administrative Support and Service 
• Work as part of the FST office team to support the needs of the department including  assisting with reception duties, room reservations, audio/visual equipment, signage,  distributing mail and packages, and other duties as needed.  
• Serves on department, college, university, and external committees as appropriate.
