We have an opening for a Quality Control Lab Technician based in our Portland, Oregon manufacturing facility. In this role, you will support the manufacturing plant by providing quality control on 2nd shift.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned that pertain to this classification. Job duties and knowledge listed are for the labor grade.  Knowledge of all duties is to be cross functional, but specific duties are assigned within available personnel.
  • Perform bench-top analysis of critical quality parameters in accordance with SOP’s and control plan. Record data to assure that in-process samples and finished goods are in compliance to specifications.
  • Conduct microbiological testing of in-process samples and finished goods in accordance with SOP’s and control plan and report results.
  • Hold finished product when results fall outside of acceptable range, investigate root cause and propose solutions. Assist in disposition of hold products through retest and /or providing sorting instructions to supply chain.
  • Analyze data statistically looking for trends, common and special cause variation.
  • Perform required environmental tests of Primary & Secondary Fluids as well as Air Quality.
  • Perform audits on equipment, materials, products and procedures to assure that the lab is in compliance based on CQA (Corporate Quality Assurance) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) procedures.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a clean, safe and orderly manner on a daily basis.

ABOUT YOU:
The ideal candidate will have:
Preferred bachelor’s degree in Science. Minimum requirement associate degree in Science or minimum two years lab experience At least one year of experience in food-processing environment preferred Basic understanding of warehouse management systems Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office Suite Possesses good oral and written communication skills; and ability to analyze technical data to form conclusions / make recommendations Ability to drive results with minimal supervision Requires good sensory skills Ability to effectively read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Demonstrated ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, departments, preferably customers and vendors as well.   • Frequent walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, squatting, standing, twisting.  Repeatedly lifting and moving 50 lbs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in all areas of the plant.
  • Inspect Machines prior to and after Interventions.
  • Perform and complete line checks
  • Maintain a sanitary and well stocked area.

As a Global Gap Auditor, Canada Gap Auditor, or Primus GFS auditor, you will play a crucial role in the mission of NSF International – to protect and improve human health. We would like to expand our team with the addition of contract Agriculture Auditors throughout North America (USA and Canada).
 
Principal Accountabilities 
  • Conduct good agricultural practices/food safety systems inspections/audits.
  • Schedule designated inspections/audits.
  • Develop effective work plans for the completion of assigned inspections/audits within a determined timeframe.
  • Summarize and evaluate inspection/audit findings.
  • Communicate findings/results of inspections/audits with client site management or appropriate client representatives.
  • Timely report audit/inspection results according to scheme requirements and travel expenses.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with key team members including audit delivery and client teams.
  • Represent NSF with the designated clients.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Recognized training in audit techniques based on QMS, FSMS - 40 hrs
  • HACCP training based on Codex from recognized institution (2 days and within the last 5 years).
  • PCQI Training for those doing module 7
  • Education in agriculture/crop based, food or bioscience related discipline, or as a minimum, have successfully completed a higher education course or equivalent qualification in one of those disciplines, with a degree, diploma or certificate from a recognized institution.
  • 5 years of experience in agriculture or food industry, but at minimum 2 years in areas such as quality assurance or food safety in food production, manufacturing, retailing inspection or enforcement or equivalent
  • Experience with 10 audit days and 2 different organizations using a GFSI scheme
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal and ability to effectively develop professional work. relationships, conflict resolution, decision making, organization and planning
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Computer with MS Windows operating system and own mobile phone
  • Establised business LLC
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
 
Preferred Qualifications 
Global Gap Auditor
  • GLOBALG.A.P. training (can be provided by NSF) and online exam.
  • 5 years’ on-farm produce experience.
  • Prior auditing experience using GFSI scheme.
  • Be an approved PRIMUSGFS auditor.
  • Experience with sustainability and social accountability standards.
 
Canada G.A.P Auditor
  • Approved CanadaGAP Auditor Training
  • 5 years’ experience working in the produce industry
  • Prior auditing experience
 
Primus GFS Auditor
  • Approved PrimusGFS Auditor Training (can be provided by NSF). (PrimusGFS auditor and Scheme training plus exam)
  • 5 years’ on-farm produce experience
  • Experience with minimal processing
  • Prior auditing experience using GFSI scheme or currently auditing to GFSI schemes.
  • Be an approved GLOBALG.A.P. auditor
  • Experience with sustainability and social accountability standards
 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science-based field  
  • 3-5+ years Auditing experience

Qualification, Training and Equipment Requirements:
  • MUST have completed a 5 day Lead Auditor Course - in a GFSI scheme (SCQF, BRC, or FSSC)
  • Completion a 2-day HACCP Course with certificate
  • Completion a Preventative Course Qualified Individual (PCQI) course
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree or diploma in relevant field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal and ability to effectively develop professional work relationships
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Tablet PC running Windows 10 and own mobile phone
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Experience:
  • 5 years’ experience working in the food/packaging industry
  • Prior auditing experience using GFSI scheme
